Hi everyone,
I hope you and your families are safe and doing okay. Because of the flooding, our school will be closed for a few days — but that doesn’t mean our learning stops! I’ve created this special website so we can keep exploring our science topic: How communities respond to natural disasters.
Everything you need is right here on this site. There are four activities, each one helping you understand how science and technology help people predict, prepare for, and recover from events like floods and bushfires.
Let me show you how it works.
Start by watching this short video on the Home Page — that’s me, explaining what you’ll do. Then move through each tab in order.
In Activity 1, you’ll watch a short Edpuzzle video about how scientists predict floods. Answer the questions that pop up as you go — your answers will help me see what you understand.
In Activity 2, you’ll watch a YouTube video on how communities prepare for floods. After that, complete a quick Google Form reflection to share what you learned about planning and safety.
In Activity 3, you’ll explore how people rebuild after disasters. You’ll watch a video about recovery efforts after floods and bushfires, then respond to a few questions in a Google Form to show your ideas on how science supports recovery.
And finally, in Activity 4, you’ll watch a fun Natural Disaster Riddle Quiz video and complete a short Google Form quiz to test your knowledge of everything we’ve covered.
Each activity includes a short feedback task so I can see your progress and help you if you need support. You can do them in any order, but it’s best to follow the tabs from one to four.
Please remember to use digital tools responsibly, post respectfully, and protect your personal information. If you can’t access something or face any technical issues, just use the contact form on the Home Page to reach me.
I’m so proud of how flexible and creative you’ve all been during remote learning. Let’s keep exploring how science helps communities like ours stay safe, strong, and ready for anything nature brings.
See you online; I can’t wait to read your reflections and see your great ideas!
